Educating Hispanic Youth Leaders

In order to create the leaders of tomorrow we need to educate the Hispanic youth of today. It’s important for organizations to create conferences where Hispanic youth leaders can attend and learn from other Latino community leaders.

Another way to grow our future leaders is to pair them up with a mentor.

Hispanic youth learn in two ways:

  1. From mistakes – this is the hardest way to learn because it’s by making wrong choices and the consequences can be costly.
  2. From a mentor – this is the best way to learn because a mentor can keep a young person from making mistakes and help them focus on goals in life. A mentor can also tell you the truth about your own goals and guide you down a path that is realistic.

So if you are an adult, start looking around for a youth that you can mentor and support. When students know they have someone who believes in them, there is no telling how far they will go with their education.

They first need to start by graduating high school. The next step is to find out what they want to do in life, what their goals are and then mentor them to accomplish their goals. Then they need to get into a college that alligns them to their goals in life. After that they will be productive citizens and one generation would have helped the future generation get ahead in life. This is how mentorship works and the Hispanic community needs it with our youth leaders.

When a Hispanic youth graduates college, the whole community as a whole graduates with them because it really does take a village to educate one child.
